Lyle G. "Charlie" Redding

February 20, 1936 - November 22, 2024

Lyle G. “Charlie” Redding was born on February 20, 1936 in Decatur, Nebraska to Glen and Lydia (Knapp) Redding.  He passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024 in Onawa, Iowa. Charlie was the 9th of 10 children. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Decatur.  He attended grade school at Elm Creek Country School and graduated from Decatur High School in 1953.  Charlie was a saint when he married the love of his life in November of 1969, going from bachelorhood to an instant dad of 11 children.  His greatest passion in life was raising his children and helping with grandchildren.  He instilled his knowledge and work ethic to all of them.  He shared his love of horse racing and farming with his family.  He supported his children in all their activities and sports.  Charlie was a man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need in his community and family. He had a lot of love to give and he shared it with everyone.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Georgia (Stauss) Dunning, his parents Glen and Lydia, sisters Esther, Alice, Edith and Lois, Brothers Mike, Lawrence (Peenie) and Larry (Whitey), son-in-law Mike Stutzman, sisters-in-law Marie Lyons and Martie Pieper.  He is survived by sisters Doris Ueding and Opal Neighbors, sister-in-law Martha Redding and children Michaela (Ron), Georgann, Jack (Linda), Tom, Kim (Don), Sean, Terry, Jerry (Pam), Marie (Al), Martie and Kevin (Machele) 21Grandchildren, 42 Great grandchildren, and 6 Great Great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews

Children/Grandchildren:   About 40 when they all show up

Started farming right after graduation.  Still go to farm every day.


We live in the old Dr. Williams house in Decatur.

 I spent some time in North Dakota and California but I always returned to Decatur.
