WILBUR F. FARRENS
was born May 1, 1921, in Decatur, Nebraska, to Bryan and
Ella (Deman) Farrens . He passed away November 26, 2007
at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah, Nebraska, at the
age of 86 years.
Wilbur graduated from Decatur
HighSchool in 1938.
On July 29, 1941, Wilbur and Alyce
Don Austin were married in Tekamah, Nebraska. They lived
on the farm southwest of Decatur until 1967, when they
moved into Decatur. Wilbur's many occupations included
farming, manager of a creamery, bartender, pool hall
operator, county surveyor, fuel delivery, fertilizer
applicator, owner and trainer of race horses and a seed
corn dealer.
Wilbur enjoyed playing cards,
especially pitch, with friends and family. One of his
favorite things to do was go to the races at Park
Jefferson and AKSARBEN. He also enjoyed bowling. He took
great pleasure in being with his children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife of 63 years, Alyce Don; infant son:
Max Robert; brother: Harlan Farrens ; sons-in-law: Ray
Carlson and Robert Siemonsma.
Survivors include his daughters: Sue
Carlson of Tekamah, Nebraska, Kay Siemonsma of Keystone,
South Dakota; son and daughter-in-law: Mick and Kathy
Farrens of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Jeff
Carlson and his wife, Andrea, Michael Carlson and his
wife, Cherie, all of Omaha, Rick Siemonsma and his wife,
Mary, of Keystone, South Dakota; Dale Siemonsma and his
wife, Jill, of Rockerville, South Dakota, Doug Siemonsma
and his wife, Jenny, of Willis, Texas, Matt Siemonsma
and his wife, Alayna, of Rapid City, South Dakota, Tanya
Becker and her husband, Pat, of Omaha, Bryan Farrens
and his wife, Erin, of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Scott
Farrens and his wife, Trista, of Omaha; fourteen great
grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law: Joan and John
Siemonsma of Decatur; sisters-in-law: Almeda Hurlocker
of Blair, Nebraska, Hazel Farrens of Lincoln, Nebraska;
several nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loving
relatives.
FUNERAL MASS: Friday, November 30,
2007 at 10:30 a.m., at the Holy Family Catholic Church
in Decatur, Nebraska.
VISITATION: Thursday 1 - 8 p.m. with
a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at Pelan Funeral Home in
Tekamah. Visitation will also be held Friday at the
church one hour prior to the service.
BURIAL: Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur,
Nebraska.
MEMORIALS: Decatur Fire and Rescue
and Sears Center for Seniors and Wellness.
