2012 HISTORIC CALENDARS ON SALE

The Ninth Edition has full color glossy pictures of Decatur’s landscapes with June, July and August featuring pictures of the 2011 flood. Pictures for the calendar were chosen by a committee in a blind process with over 325 entries. Winners were: Judy Anderson, Norma Farrens, Tom Farrens, Joyce McCullock , Byron McNeely, Brandi Mussack, Scott Olson, and Abbie Syrek. Photo layout and collages were done by Sheryl Piere of Blackbird Hill Studio.

Daily historic trivia was collated by Historic President Jane Judt, and focuses on the first part of the 1960’s, where record snow falls and a measles epidemic hit Decatur. Several businesses either opened or closed their doors, the Decatur Advertiser consolidated with the Burt County Plaindealer, and chest x-rays and polio vaccines were available to citizens. Trivia on the school, organizations and social events are also noted.

The calendars were printed by Enterprise Publishing of Blair, Nebraska, and cost $12. They can be purchased at Betty’s Café, Decatur Express, Farrens Market, First Nebraska Bank,  and the Village Clerk’s Office.

Calendars may also be purchased by contacting Norma Farrens at 402-349-5180 or emailing nsfarrens@gmail.com.
