Alyce Don Austin Farrens (Deceased)
December 1, 1923 - October 5, 2003 Funeral Services for Alyce Don Farrens were held Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur. A visitation was held Tuesday from 1-8 p. m. Family received friends from 5-7 p.m. at Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service. There was a rosary on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home. Alyce Don Farrens passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003 at the Burgess Health Center in Onawa, IA at the age of 79 years. Father Jim Kramper officiated at the service. Special music was provided by Dot Connealy. Casket bearers were: Jeffrey Carlson, Michael Carlson, Rick Siemonsma, Dale Siemonsma, Doug Siemonsma, Matt Siemonsma, Tanya Becker, Bryan Farrens and Scott Farrens. Burial was at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur. Alyce Don Austin was born on December 1, 1923 to Ira and Ethel (Connealy) Austin. Alyce Don attended Elm Creek School through the 10th grade and graduated from Decatur High School in 1940. On July 29, 1941, Alyce Don and Wilbur F. Farrens were united in marriage at Tekamah, NE. They lived on the farm, where she was born, southwest of Decatur until 1967 when they moved into Decatur. She was a mother and homemaker. Alyce Don was a life-long member of the Holy Family Parish in Decatur and an active member in the Altar Society. She was a member of the TOPS Club, Inc. and was elected Nebraska State Queen in 1998. Alyce Don enjoyed working crossword puzzles, bowling and knitting. She took great pleasure in being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Max Robert; two brothers, John and Max Austin and infant sister, Eilene Fern. Survivors include her husband, Wilbur of Decatur; Daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Ray Carlson of Tekamah, Kay and Bob Siemonsma of Keystone, SD; son and daughter-in-law, Mick and Kathy Farrens of Omaha; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sisters; Almeda Hurlocker of Tekamah, Marguerite Dean of Helena, Montana; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Hazel Farrens, Joan and John Siemonsma all of Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
