Betty Hughes Wiseman

April 22, 1936 - September 15, 2023

Betty Wiseman was born to Robert and Beulah (Y’Deen) Hughes on April 22, 1936, in Decatur, NE. She passed away peacefully at her home on September 15, 2023.   Betty graduated from Decatur High School in 1954. On January 1, 1961, she gave birth to her son, Allen, who meant the world to her. She was united in marriage to Herman Wiseman on January 17, 1970, until his passing.   Betty worked at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, IA, for more than 30 years prior to her retirement.   Betty was active with the Decatur Senior Center and served on the board. She loved her time together with friends in town over a cup of coffee. She enjoyed puzzle books and embroidery. Her witty sense of humor kept those around her laughing.

She was preceded in death by her son, Allen; husband, Herman; sisters, Jana (Worley) and Roberta (Forrester); and her parents.   She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Madeline and Ilene (Omaha, NE); niece, Patti DeCora (Tom); nephew, Paul Forrester; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, some of which called her Grammy.

     I have lived here in Decatur all my life.  I didn't get away.  I was married to Herman Wiseman from Iowa and we have a son ,Allen, who is a member of the 25 year class this year.

     I worked at Burgess Hospital in Onawa, IA for 32 years.  I am retired now, and still living in Decatur.
