Information taken from May 25, 2003 Decatur Alumni Banquet Booklet. Spouse: Kay Miller After graduation from Decatur High, I entered Wayne State College and attended the summer session of 1953. At the end of the summer I applied for and received the position of "teacher at the Deman school just west of town. When the school year ended, I married a local girl and two days later reported for the draft. After 4 months of drudgery at Fort Leonard Wood I was assigned to the Machine Accounting School in Indianapolis. Although I did not know it at the time, Machine Accounting School set me on the road to my future career. From Indianapolis I flew to Seattle. There on the 24th of December I boarded a one stack troop ship to Korea. It was a miserable trip in heavy seas. After arriving in Korea, I was reassigned three times ending up in an infantry regiment north of the 38th parallel. After 6 months in Korea I was transferred to Fort Lewis, WA where I was discharged. A divorce followed. I was able to put my Machine accounting to work when I began my computer career in Seattle. In 1957 I married Kay MacDonald, a girl I had known since I was 8 years old. We are still going strong. Over the years I worked for companies whose services evolved with the computer age. During the mid 70's we were transferred to England for 1 1/2 years. It was a wonderful experience. When we returned to the United States we settled in Portland, OR., where the company headquarters was located. A few years after our return, the company was sold and I accepted a job with Consolidated Freightways. Their data processing was the second largest computer set up in the state of Or. I suffered a massive stroke that ended my working career. We moved to Bella Vista and a whole new and very enjoyable life.
