Obituary for Darrell K
Andersen
Darrell Kenneth Andersen,
age 86 years, was welcomed into Heaven by our Lord Savior Jesus
Christ on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.
Darrell was born on November 12, 1928, to Elmer and Dora (Badge)
Andersen in rural Lyons, Nebraska. He attended the Bacon Country
School and graduated from Decatur High School in 1946. Darrell
joined the U.S. Army in December, 1946, and was stationed in
Japan where he served in the Military Police.
On May 28, 1950, Darrell married Mary Lou Murphy… in Lyons,
Nebraska. To this union were born three children: Randy, Debbie
and Beth. The family resided in rural Decatur and Darrell farmed
for over 50 years along with his son, Randy. The last several
years were spent at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting,
Iowa, with many loving caregivers who referred to him as
“Grandpa”.
Darrell was a loving, caring father and grandfather. He was
always excited to get a visit from his kids, grandkids, and
great grandkids. Darrell enjoyed farming, raising livestock,
card parties with his good friends, frequenting the casinos with
Mary, and, in his later years, Saturday morning breakfast with
friends and family and his friendship and “banter” with the
Pleasant View staff.
Darrell was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Decatur
and the American Legion Post 215.
Loved ones preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Mary,
brother, Wilbur Andersen, sister, Eldora Whisinnand, and
grandson, Brent Dye.
