Donald Edward Farrens (Deceased)

 

 

Donald Edward Farrens, 72, died August 29, 1997, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa.  Services were September 2nd at Decatur United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judith Clark Wharton officiating.

Organist was Dona Beard and Vocalist was Rod Baker.

Casket bearers were Lyle L. Farrens, Tom Farrens, Joe Farrens, Randy Andersen, Gene Kinnan and Steve Dye.

Don was born February 11, 1925 in Monowi to Howard and Hazel (Fleharty) Farrens.  He graduated from Decatur High School in 1942 and attended Dana College in Blair for one year.

Farrens served in the United States Navy during World War II from March 28, 1944, until May 15, 1946.

He was a truck driver and lived in Los Angeles, California and Meadview, Arizona before returning to Decatur in 1990.

November 28, 1990 Betty Hightree became his wife at Onawa, Iowa.

Memberships included VFW Gleason-Rogers Post No 6926, American Legion Post No. 15 and Teamsters Union.

His parents and two wives preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Decatur, two sons, Nicholas of Los Angeles, CA, and Bill of Yuma, CO; daughter, Debra of Victorville, CA; stepson, Mark of CA; and seven grandchildren.

Military graveside rites were conducted by VFW Gleason-Rogers Post No 6926 and American Legion Post No 215 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur.
