Edgar (Eddie) Sears, Jr., Deceased

 

1936-2016

 

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, 10 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur., Neb., for Edgar Allison Sears, Jr., 80. He died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at his home in Decatur. A visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends and a Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m., all at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to service.

Edgar was born November 17, 1936, to Edgar Allison and Anne Marie (Gatewood) Sears in Tekamah, Neb. He was the second of four children and was raised in Decatur. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1954 with academic honors where he was a three sport letterman in football, basketball and baseball. He enlisted in the US Army in 1954 and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Although he saw no combat, he was a Korean War veteran. Upon completion of his service, he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and played varsity baseball for two years. He moved to Southern California and worked with his Uncle, Harold “Doc” Sears, and met Marie Mousel from Juniata, Neb., and they were married on January 21, 1961. He lived and worked in Southern California, in the rubber business, until 1985. He then became a cross country truck driver until he retired in the year 2000. 

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ann Sears, John Sears and Rita Mockus.  

Survivors include his sister, Jane McDonald; his four children, Anthony Allison Sears, Fr. Michael James Sears, Monica Elizabeth Weber and John Lincoln Sears; four grandchildren, Rachael Sears, Claire Sears, Christian Weber and Grant Weber.

I retired in July 2000.  After graduation, I went into the U.S. Army (2 years), then I went to the University of Nebraska for 3 years.  I moved to Southern California and worked in the Rubber Business for 25 years.  I married Marie Morsel (deceased).  We had four children.

I became an over the road truck driver until retirement.  I have lived in Decatur since then.
