Edna Hightree, 92, of Decatur, Nebraska passed away Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Wakefield Health Care Center, Wakefield, Nebraska.

A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Greg Meyer, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Edna’s obituary. Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Sears Center in Decatur, Nebraska. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Nebraska. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Edna Frances Olson was born November 24, 1931, in Decatur, Nebraska, the daughter of Harold “Dutch” and Frances (Maryott) Olson. She grew up in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School with the class of 1949.

Edna and Eldon Hightree were united in marriage on May 24, 1950, in Logan, Iowa.

Edna worked as a secretary for Farm Bureau Insurance, later worked in the kitchen for the Walthill Public School, secretary for Walthill High School, and retired from Casino Omaha as a cashier.

She enjoyed painting, crocheting, crafting, and fishing. Edna was very handy working on many home projects, and not being afraid to tackle anything. She was a hard-working person that never sat still. Edna loved spending time with her family.

Edna was a member of the Eastern Star-Job’s Daughters, an eight-year member of the Decatur American Legion Auxiliary, and nineteen year member of the VFW Auxiliary in Lyons, Nebraska.

Survivors include her children, Gene Hightree of Decatur, Nebraska; Jack (Stacie) Hightree of Golden, Colorado, and Toni (Jeff) Meyer of Decatur, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Linda Hightree of Granite Falls, Washington; grandchildren, James (Rhonda) Hightree of Albion, Nebraska, Amy (Bob) Market of Hastings, Nebraska, Jarrod (Stacy) Long of Thurston, Nebraska, Jo Jo Long of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Donaven Nolze of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jazzmin (Matt) Carley of Sioux City, Iowa, Harlie Nolze of Decatur, Nebraska, Wyatt Nolze of Decatur, Nebraska, Josh Swanson of Fischer, Texas, Lucas (Fiancée Erica Sterling) Hightree of Golden, Colorado, and Elyssa (Ben) Wartofsky of Lakewood, Colorado; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Hightree; parents, Harold and Frances (Maryott) Olson; brother, Harold “Brub” (Betty) Olson; son, Joe Hightree; and very special friend, Glenn Brewer.

We moved to Walthill in 1954 where Don was employed at the lumberyard.  I worked for the school for 17 years.  We moved back to Decatur to my parents' farm in 1976.  We sold the farm in 1994 and we moved to town where Don is employed at the Toll Bridge and I have been employed at the Casino Omaha for the past seven years as a cashier.
