Charles "Fred" Johnson (Deceased)

 June 22, 1926 - March 10, 1998

Former Decatur resident Charles Fredrick Johnson, 71, died March 10, 1998.  Following cremation, a memorial service was conducted by Chaplain Jack Gabbert at Thomas Fitzgerald Veterans Home March 29.  Memorials may be sent to the home at 15589 Maple St. in Omaha or any veteran's organization.

He was born June 22, 1926 at Tekamah to Dwight and Genevieve Johnson, longtime Burt County residents.

He grew up in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School in 1944.  He was a Korean War veteran.

Johnson was employed with Nebraska Department of Roads and Northern Natural Gas and was a retired cross-country truck driver.

Due to ill health, the past seven and one-half years had been spent at the Fitzgerald Veterans Home in Omaha.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Clayton, killed in action during World War II, and Byron "Blackie", in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Belle, whom he married June 2, 1953; sons, Thomas and Timothy, both of California, and Scott of Omaha; brothers, Wayne of Lincoln, Edwin of Riverdale, and George A. "Dib" of Sacramento, CA; and sister, Marilyn Heiner of San Leandro, CA.
