Obituary for Glenn E. Hunter Glenn Earl Hunter, 84 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, long time resident of rural Decatur, Nebraska, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska. Glenn was born to Harry and Nina (Kenley) Hunter on October 28, 1931 in Superior, Nebraska. At age 1, Glenn moved to a farm on Quinnabaugh Island near Decatur Nebraska. He lived there until the flood of 2011 forced him to relocate. He graduated from Decatur High School and attended Wayne State College for 1 year. During this time he met Delores Froid. They were married on June 29, 1952. Born to this union were two children Renae and David. In January of 1953, Glenn was drafted into the army. He went to Korea, where he operated a D7 Caterpillar in the 2nd Division (2nd to None). He returned home in October of 1954 and met his daughter for the first time. Glenn worked the family farm with his brother Dean, eventually taking over and farming it until 1981 with his son David. He worked on the Decatur Toll Bridge for 20 years. Glenn was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, held a Lifetime membership in VFW and American Legion Post 215. He was also a member of Farm Bureau where he served as president for many years. Glenn loved spending time with his family, traveling and visiting with friends and neighbors. He was proud of the round house he and his wife built southeast of Decatur. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed his four exchange granddaughters, Cecilia, Nara, Tici, and Marcia from Fortaleza, Brazil. Glenn was a neighbor to all and never knew a stranger. He made everyone he met feel like a member of the family. He was known for going to auctions and buying the whole lot for a dollar, his kind and generous ways and his loving hugs. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean Hunter; sister, Flora Rose Quick; and wife of 59 years, Delores Hunter. Survivors include daughter and son in-law, Renae and Jerry Magill of Gretna, NE; son and daughter in-law, David and Denise (Twining) Hunter of Lyons, NE; six grandchildren: Jessica (Magill) and Stephen Manna of Omaha, NE, Monica (Magill) and Andrew Herd of Papillion, NE, Melissa (Hunter) and Craig Brokaw of Lyons, Alyssa (Magill) and John Krogstrand of Pierre, SD, Maggie (Hunter) Miller of Lyons, Brandon and Lisa (Maslowsky) Hunter of Blair, NE; 16 great grandchildren: Christina, Mikayla and Josiah Manna, Nathan, Katelyn and Megan Herd, Mitchel and Rebecca Krogstrand, Arianne, Miriel and Laurel Brokaw, Hailey, Colten, Kaylin and Cassidy Miller, and Brayden Glenn Hunter; brothers and sisters in-law, Lyle and Helen Tippery of Decatur, and Gordon and LaVonne Froid of South Sioux City, NE; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and special neighbors Joe and Phil PennyInformation taken from the May 30,1999 Decatur Alumni Banquet Booklet Spouse: Delores A. After High School graduation, I attended Wayne State College for one year. I then married Delores Froid of Lyons in June 1952. Uncle Sam called me in January 1953, and in May of 1953 I was sent to Korea as a heavy equipment operator for 16 months. Our daughter, Renae, was born while I was in Korea and she was nearly one year old before I saw her. Our son, David, was born in 1957. We are proud grandparents of 6 grandkids, 5 girls and one boy. I have lived all my life down on the "Island" where I farmed for many years. I am now a toll-taker on the Decatur Bridge. I work the late night shift and enjoy visiting with all the late night people. While I was in Korea, the Stars & Stripes Magazine, which we received there, had a picture of the "Dryland Bridge" at Decatur, Nebraska, on its front cover. I enjoy coming to Decatur for breakfast and sitting with others at the" Liar's table". I had heart bypass surgery in 1979 and again in 1998, so feel fortunate to wake up each morning! I truly enjoy my family and friends.
