Mary Jean Young Ferguson (deceased)
October 7, 1927 - October 7, 1995 Services for Mary Jean Ferguson, 68, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (today), October 11, at Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. She died October 7, 1995, at Blair Memorial Community Hospital. Elder Lloyd Olson will Officiate and Karen Strange will be organist. She was born October 7, 1927, in Blair to Fred and Minnie (Andersen) Young. Jean graduated from Decatur High School in 1945. September 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Austin. They were the parents of four children. She married Alfred Ferguson on October 8, 1967, and they lived on a farm west of Herman for many years. Upon retiring the couple bought a home in Herman, where they lived until his death in 1991. Mrs. Ferguson then moved to Blair. She spent most of her married life raising her children and caring for her home. Family members say her door was always open for them no matter what time of the day or night. Her parents, husband, Alfred, and brother, Ned Young, preceded her in death. Survivors include sons: Tom Austin of Blair, and Tim Austin of Staplehurst; daughters, Sandy Bryan of Blair and Susie McKinnis of Kennard; sisters, Bonnie Otte and Mina Warren, both of Blair, and Doris Harris of Torrington, WY; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Casket bearers are Joel Burdess, Michael Burdess, William Austin and Lance Cudmore. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur.
