Graveside services for Joan Mitchell Darling, 67, were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (today), July 31, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur with High Priest Harold Walter officiating.  She died July 28, 1996 at her home in Decatur.

She was born July 30, 1928, in Decatur to Ed and Isora Valentine (Davis) Mitchell.  She graduated from Decatur High School in 1945 and attended Wayne State Teacher College for two years.

In 1956 she married Forrest H. Darling.  For two years, she taught school and was a homemaker.

Her parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Trish Jacobson of Ames, IA; and Shirley Ann Darling of CA; sisters, Lucille Milford of Fridley, MN; Shirley Rodoff of Council Bluffs, IA and Gladys Sykes of Dayton, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
