April 24, 1928 - April 30, 1995 A memorial service for Mary Janet Farrens, 67, was 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (today), May 3, at the United Methodist Church in Decatur. She died April 30, 1995, at her home in Decatur following a lingering illness. She was born April 24, 1928, at Walthill to George and Carrie Worley Maryott. When she was 10, she moved from Macy to Decatur, graduating from Decatur High School in 1945. She later attended the University of Nebraska, where she obtained a teaching certificate. November 25, 1953, she married Merle S. Farrens at Decatur. They lived all of their married years on a farm north of Decatur. Mrs. Farrens was an elementary teacher for several years and served as a substitute teacher for the Decatur, Lyons, Macy and Rosalie schools for almost 30 years. She was an active member of United Methodist Church and Women in Rural Electrification of Burt County, and was guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel No. 36 of Decatur. Her father preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband; tow sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Norma and Mike and Donna, all of Decatur; daughters, Pam Brethouwer of Lincoln; mother, Carrie Maryott of Decatur; brothers and Sister-in-law, Jack and Jackie and Jerry, all of Decatur; eight grandchildren, Nick and Emily Brethouwer, Abbie and Cody Farrens, Honour, Allison and Brady Farrens and Kelsey Stillman; nieces, nephews and cousins. The Rev. Charles A. Bailey was Officiant. Dona Beard was organist. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur.
