Memorial services for Mike Sears were Monday, July 2, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur. He passed away June 26, 2018 peacefully in his home after a hard-fought battle with kidney disease.

Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur.

Michael K. Sears was born to Willis Kurtz and Barbara (Adams) Sears on Feb. 15, 1952, in Omaha.

He was raised in Decatur, Neb., and attended Decatur High School. Later he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kearney State College, now the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

On July 20, 1974, Mike was married to Deborah Egging in Sidney, Neb. They lived most of their lives in Dakota City running Hungry’s Steakhouse.

After 37 years, Mike and Debbie returned to Decatur to farm full time. In additional to farming Mike loved golfing, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike is survived by his wife; Debbie, son; Adam, daughter; Ashley, and soon-to-be granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Nebraska Foundation Organ Transplantation Research.
