PAULINE VIRGINIA ROSE
was born June 22, 1928, in rural Decatur, Nebraska, to
Melvin and Faye (Pounds) Jump. She passed away, Tuesday,
March 1, 2011, at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland,
Nebraska, at the age of 82 years.
Pauline attended country school at
Black Bird School and graduated from Decatur High
School. She attended Midland Teachers College in
Fremont, Nebraska, and taught country grade school.
She married Leon Storm. They had
seven children, Dalbert, Marilyn, Duane, Vicki, Howard,
Douglas, and Curtis. The family made their home in Macy,
Nebraska. They later divorced. Pauline was employed at
various restaurants in Decatur and beef processing
plants in Omaha and IBP in Dakota City, Nebraska, where
she moved up from labor to management as a trainer to
the Quality Control Inspector. She trained left handed
meat cutters, as she was able to cut meat right or left
handed. She also met the famous French Chef, Julia
Child, and instructed her in the breakdown of various
cuts of beef. Pauline was injured twice while employed
at IBP, rendering her disabled.
Pauline was a past member of Trinity
Lutheran Church in Decatur, where she served on various
ladies committees.
On January 30, 1982, Pauline was
married to Don Rose, at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Decatur by the Rev. Warner. They resided in Dakota
City, Nebraska. Pauline enjoyed camping and fishing as
much as her disability allowed. In 1997, when due to
Pauline’s health, they moved to Lyons, Nebraska. Moving
to Lyons was a blessing to Pauline, as they moved next
door to her friend and co-worker, Gale Corey, from their
Decatur restaurant days. Pauline and Gale visited daily,
reminiscing over coffee and goodies; during bad weather,
they stayed in contact by phone. Although Pauline had
to deal with many health problems from cancer to spine
surgeries during this time, the years she spent in Lyons
turned out to be the very most enjoyable part of her
life.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; brothers, Kenneth and Earl Dean Jump and great
grandson, Noah.
Survivors include her husband, Don of
Lyons; daughters, Marilyn (David) Johnson of Ozark,
Missouri, Vicki (Davis) Hankins of Lyons; five sons,
