PEGGY ANN DAVIS, 68
years, of Decatur, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, May 29,
2014, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Nebraska, where she
had been a resident for the last two and one half years.
Peggy was born November 25, 1945, in
Lyons, Nebraska, to L. Elten and V. Adene (Deman) Nelson.
She attended elementary school at Deman District No. 32 and
graduated from Decatur Public School in 1963.
On April 22, 1966, Peggy married George
A. Davis and to this union one son, Tracy, was born.
Peggy worked for Plaindealer Publishing
Co. Inc. for a time after high school and then was among the
last telephone switchboard operators in Tekamah before the
switchboard was eliminated. She then went to work at Woodmen
of the World and then Mutual of Omaha. After her marriage
they moved to Long Beach, California, for a year before
returning to Decatur, where she did babysitting in her home.
In 1978, she began working with Golda Stafford in the
Decatur Village Clerk’s Office and took over as head clerk
when Golda passed away. She held the position of Village
Clerk until February 1999.
Peggy was a member of Trinity Lutheran
Church in Decatur and at one time was a member of its Ladies
Aid. She and her sister, Pam, and their mother, Adene, put
up a Winter Wonderland for the Decatur Community for 18
years and a haunted house for the community for ten years.
After former Gov. Kay Orr’s visit to Decatur and after
sending her a video tape of their Winter Wonderland, Peggy
and Pam were both made Admirals in the Great Navy of
Nebraska by Gov. Orr. Peggy along with her sister, Pam, also
served as Grand Marshals for one of the Riverfront Days
Parade.
Peggy loved horses and while still in
school she purchased her own quarter horse and broke it to
ride, which she was very proud of. She enjoyed traveling to
different areas of the U.S. and especially anywhere she
could ride a horse. She loved being outdoors, whether it was
gardening, mowing or whatever.
Peggy was a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
grandparents, father- and mother-in-law, Lenten and Eva
Davis; brother-in-law, Wayne Wyland.
Survivors include her husband, George of
Decatur; son, Tracy Davis also of Decatur; two grandsons,
Chris Giles and Colten Davis; granddaughter, Miranda Davis;
sisters, Judy Wyland of Gravis Mills, MO and Pam Nelsen of
Decatur; aunts, uncles, nieces nephews and a host of
friends.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, June 2, 2014,
10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Decatur.
VISITATION: The Family
will receive friends Sunday, June 1st from 4 - 6 p.m. at
Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, Nebraska. Visitation will
also be held Monday at the church one hour prior to the
service.
