He always laughed because his father signed his draft card. After his discharge, he returned to Decatur and worked at Citizens State Bank. Prior to getting married, Dick and good friend Doyle Rogers, moved an old farmhouse to town and fixed it up. Dick and Dee raised their family in that home and resided there, until his passing. Dick was a handyman who built on the family room addition with the help of his brothers-in-law.
Dick opened Dick Larson's Insurance Agency in Decatur. He helped build the Dry Land Bridge, and later in life, spent 18 years as a toll taker there. He served as a volunteer firefighter and rescue squad member. He volunteered with the Salvation Army. He was a boy scout leader, served on the Hillcrest Cemetery Board and was a member of the American Legion Rogers-Crum Post No. 215. He and Dee served as Grand Marshalls of the Riverfront Days Parade.
Dick enjoyed driving around the countryside, watching the geese at Blue Lake, eating ice cream, Nebraska football, spending time with family and friends picnicking. He also liked trips to Branson with his family. He was a very caring person who loved his family. He enjoyed singing "You Are My Sunshine" and entertaining the grandkids by showing them his "Two Little Blackbirds" finger skit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H.C. and Rachel Larson and sister, Harriet A. Larson.
