Mary Anne Karmann Hightree

October 21, 1924 - September 8, 2023

  MaryAnne “Midge” Hightree passed peacefully on September 8, 2023 at the Newport House in Omaha NE.

      Preceding her in death are husband William “Bill” Hightree, daughter Judy Morrison, granddaughter Cari Morgan, parents Joe and Laura Karmann, sister and three brothers. Several relatives and friends.

    MaryAnne’s pride and joy was her family, until we meet again, she leaves to carry on her memory Son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and MarJean, grandchildren, Christi (Brian), Natalie (Jason), Caleb (Christine), Billie (Dave), Bobbi (Tom), Candace (Jon), Bret (Kristin). 9 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. As well as her Newport House family where she has resided the past 5 years.

    MaryAnne was born on a farm in rural Queinnebaugh Area to Joseph and Laura (Wassem) Karmann on October 21, 1924. When she was 9 years old the family moved into Decatur where she attended Decatur Grade School and High School graduating in 1942.   March of 1942, she married the love of her life Bill Hightree in Dakota City NE. They lived in California until Bill received his draft notice and was shipped overseas for 4 years. MaryAnne moved back to Decatur and lived with her parents.

    MaryAnne had several jobs throughout her 98 years of life. Including, helping her dad with his corn shelling business, working at his blacksmith shop, several bookkeeping and accounting jobs. She was most proud of the fact that at 90 years of age she drove back and forth to Omaha daily to work for her daughter’s business.   Always active in her community, she was a member of Decatur Fire bells, Decatur Museum and years of hard work and dedication to the Decatur Alumni. MaryAnne was a strong spirited lady always had a positive attitude and will be deeply missed.

     Over 30 years in accounting in banking, insurance, credit in manufacturing, excavation & housing development.  Presently employed by LCB, Inc., Omaha, NE.

     I find it enjoyable to work with and meet people.  I have especially enjoyed my association with the Decatur alumni Association throughout the years.
