Wilma "Cindy" Evelyn Penny Maddox 1923 ~ 2009 .Wilma Evelyn Penny was born on August 24, 1923 near Martin, Bennett County, South Dakota to Bernard Wilmont Penny and Ethyl Mary Farrens. Wilma spent the first 12 of her formative years on the family farm near Martin, South Dakota where she helped with farm chores and attended local school. When she was 12 years of age her family moved to Lake Quinnebaugh area south of Decatur, Nebraska. She completed school at the Farrens Country School and then attended and graduated from Decatur High School in 1942. She obtained her nickname of Cindy in high school when someone said her hair reminded him of "hot cinders". She went to California to work during WWII. She married Earle Lee Maddox. They lived in California in the Long Beach area. Earle and Wilma Penny Maddox had two children, Dennis Earle Maddox and Cheri Lois Maddox. Wilma Evelyn Penny Maddox passed away on December 24, 2009 at Long Beach, California. They are buried in Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress, California. Cindy also learned to be an accomplished pilot. Maddox Production CO., is an oil well servicing Firm Children: 1 boy and 1 girl Grandchildren: 3 I learned to fly and earned my pilots license in 1959, FAA rated to fly a single and Multi-engine aircraft. I flew our own plane in our business. Flew in the Powder Puff Derby ( an all women's air race) in 1960. I enjoy activities in local community affairs and Fraternal Clubs: Desk & Derrick Club, Lady Lions, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America and International Order of Jesteretts.
